Parenthood - an interesting journey

Well, my daughter left for home early this morning - it is still hard to say goodbye and let her go over 900 miles away. So I am sitting downtown at this 2nd rate (according to my son) coffee shop having some coffee and a muffin (cranberry).
It doen't matter whether your child is 3 days old, 3 years old, 30 years old, or older, whatever age they are, they are still your child.
When they are babies, you nuture them and protect them so that they can grow. Then you sent them off to school to learn the basic skills they will need to just survive in this batterred and brused world. You encourage them to study and get into college. Some children take more encouragement and prodding than others. They go off to college to learn to be a better person, to learn to make a small difference in the world. To learn about logic and philosophy. Then they go off in the world to create their own life, the thing you have helped prepare them to do, and it is still hard to let them go, but you have to let them go - you have to let them go with love, blessings, and encouragement. You want to keep them, but that is not what life is about
You have to find consolation in the fact that they have grown into independent adults, that they can and will make their way in the world. But, you always let them know that you are just a phone call away, willing to help in whatever way you possibly can.
we have raised our children well (mostly Jan), they are Christians, they are intelligent, educated, caring adults, but they are still our children and it is still hard to let them go.
